FROST Debuts an Operating System Built for Cash-Pay Clinics

A Clearwater, Fla. software company is targeting a segment of health care that most electronic records systems were never designed to serve: clinics that bill patients directly rather than insurers. FROST on July 22 launched what it describes as an end-to-end operating system for cash-pay medical, chiropractic and integrated-medicine practices, consolidating functions that owners typically stitch together from separate tools.

The company said the platform combines lead management, patient enrollment, clinical documentation, payment processing, inventory fulfillment and real-time performance reporting in one system. FROST estimates the approach can eliminate more than 500 administrative hours a year at a typical clinic, though that figure reflects the company's own projections rather than independent testing.

A gap between wellness clinics and legacy software

Cash-pay practices, including hormone-optimization, weight-loss, regenerative-therapy and longevity clinics, have proliferated as consumer demand for elective wellness services has grown. Analysts tracking the sector have described a fast-expanding U.S. wellness and longevity market driven in part by medical weight-loss and personalized care. FROST puts the U.S. wellness and longevity opportunity at roughly $3 trillion by 2030 and estimates there are more than 300,000 cash-pay practices operating nationwide.

Many of those clinics rely on insurance-oriented EMR and EHR platforms alongside a mix of marketing, scheduling and billing tools that do not share data. The company argues that fragmentation forces staff into duplicate data entry and leaves owners without a clear view of revenue. Setting up and running a cash-pay clinic often means assembling that toolset piece by piece.

Founders cite operating experience

FROST was co-founded by Vivienne Reign, who the company says has built clinics generating more than $200 million in cash-treatment revenue, and Darren Anderson, who has a financial-technology and engineering background. Reign is credited with the platform's operational design.

"I've built these clinics. I know exactly where the hours disappear, where the revenue leaks, and where owners are flying blind," Reign said in a statement.

The privately held company, based in Clearwater, has not disclosed pricing, customer counts or outside funding. Details about the platform are available on the company's website, which also references a feature it calls ZipMD for connecting practices with network physicians. Independent reviews of the software and its time-savings claims were not available at launch.

Crowded field, unproven claims

FROST enters a competitive practice-management market that includes established general-purpose and specialty platforms, and it will have to demonstrate that a purpose-built system delivers measurable advantages for cash-pay operators. The company describes its product as the first operating system designed specifically for the segment, a claim that is difficult to verify given the range of existing tools clinics already adapt for cash-pay use.

For now, the launch signals growing commercial interest in software tailored to elective and self-pay health care, a category that sits outside the insurance-reimbursement systems that dominate much of the industry.
